Eco Block is thrilled to announce an exciting new project underway in Toowoomba, showcasing the innovative use of Eco Block ICF.
Spearheaded by owner-builder Tirrell, this ambitious endeavour is set to redefine sustainable construction in the region. We caught up with Tirrell to get an insider’s perspective on this groundbreaking build.
Toowoomba house builders: the vision unveiled
The project involves the construction of a stunning two-story dwelling, ingeniously integrated into a hillside. Boasting a spacious 450m2 layout, this single-family home comprises six bedrooms, three bathrooms, and a host of contemporary amenities.
One of its standout features is the expansive double-height kitchen/living/dining area, accentuated by striking raked ceilings and large exposed steel beams, embodying modern elegance and functionality.
Building materials Toowoomba: pioneering sustainability with Eco Block
When asked about his experience with Eco Block, Tirrell said, “The system was easy to learn and use and allowed a highly insulated poured concrete wall construction with minimal labour requirement. The system was fast to build with lightweight materials. Overall, it was an easy-to-use, intuitive product that easily resolved my bushfire and acoustic design requirements.”
Home construction: striking features
The most remarkable feature of the home is its expansive double-story glazed facade, which provides breathtaking views into the valley below. It serves as a testament to both architectural ingenuity and environmental consciousness.
Toowoomba builders homes: navigating challenges, overcoming obstacles
Reflecting on the highlights of the build so far, Tirrell shared, “For the most part, it has been very straightforward. None of my trades had worked with this type of construction before, so there was a learning curve with it being their first time.”
However, the project wasn’t without its hurdles. Tirrell recounted, “Access has been hugely problematic, as the access to the house is up a very steep long driveway.
As a result, we decided to use two concrete pumps for each of the seven concrete pours required for the project.”
Although this was an obstacle, it would have been a lot more difficult with the use of heavy concrete block work.
Eco Block ICF: a collaborative journey
Tirrell expressed gratitude for Eco Block’s support throughout the process, stating, “The Eco Block team supported me with several site visits from Tony prior to construction commencing and multiple phone and email interactions.”
This collaborative approach underscores Eco Block’s commitment to ensuring a seamless experience for builders and homeowners alike.
With the exterior slated for completion by mid-April, Tirrell anticipates moving in by the 3rd quarter this year, contingent upon budget and finances.
