When our client Patrizia set about building her ECO Block home, she didn’t anticipate just how much interest it would attract in her humble little suburb of Concord, 10km west of the Sydney CBD.
Patrizia describes the project as being very exciting to witness as it came together, providing a unique spectacle in the city suburb, with even the local Fire Brigade stopping in to look at the curious process.
“People were baffled by what I was doing. The house was so large it looked like a big esky in the middle of Concord”, she said.
According to Patrizia, the entire experience was one she remembers fondly.
“I was extremely proud of building one of the very first full ECO Homes in Concord. It was an amazing experience to watch it go up so quickly and how fascinatingly easy it was when we did the curved walls. I loved the fact that all my downpipes and any services we had like air conditioning were all concealed behind the render, the house was very neat,” she recalled.
The benefits didn’t stop there, though. Patrizia soon realised just how great it is to build with and live in an energy efficient home.
What is it like to live in an Energy Efficient Home?
It is easy to find the many benefits of building using ECO Blocks throughout our website, particularly when building residential dwellings. Patrizia quickly understood the ease and speed of building an ICF home, but it wasn’t until she lived in it for some time that she was able to appreciate the energy efficiency too.
Upon initially submitting her building plans to the council for sustainability approval, she had received a skeptical response. With so many windows and several floors to ceiling glass areas in the design, it would normally be difficult to keep the home cool in our harsh Aussie summers. Her design was approved, of course, and Patrizia completed her build, proving the sceptics wrong!
Soundproof AND Sustainable
Patrizia also loved the superior soundproofing that the Insulating Concrete Forms provide, particularly when combined with the uPVC Tilt and Turn double-glazed windows she had chosen.
“Once we moved in, we put it to the test. Soundproof, yep! Maintain temperature, yep, 100%! In winter, it maintained the heat in the house, and in summer, it kept the house cool. We proved everyone wrong because it definitely did”

The Final Verdict
There is no doubt in Patrizia’s mind that she made the right choice. Patrizia said she would choose ECO Block for future projects and recommends that selecting an engineer who has previously worked with ICF systems is a good idea.
“I was extremely proud of building one of the very first full ECO Homes in Concord”, she said.
“I would use ECO Block again for my next building adventure and would more than highly recommend anyone that is thinking of building with ECO Block to make it their first choice of Building material, as it will not disappoint”.
